Lincoln Electric?s Carl Occhialini, automotive segment manager, was given the American Welding Society?s (AWS) ?Image of Welding? Award.
The ?Image of Welding? award ? presented by AWS?s Welding Equipment Manufacturers Committee (WEMCO) ? is given to candidates who are dedicated to the future of the welding industry and have shown courage and resourcefulness when faced with tough challenges.
Occhialini started working as a certified welder more than 45 years ago ? a job that began as a source for funding his college education and turned into a lifelong career. Shortly after graduating from Boston Technical Institute, Occhialini joined Lincoln Electric, where he has served in several roles of increasing responsibility, including technical sales representative for Seattle, Des Moines and Chicago, as well as district sales manager for Indianapolis and Detroit.
He became an AWS certified welding inspector and continued to elevate his role at Lincoln, where he now coordinates the company?s automotive segment from his Detroit office. Carl spends much of his time traveling across the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Japan speaking to students and professionals about the industry and its diverse career paths.
?Welding has made me the man I have always wanted to be. And I tell all who want to hear ? welding can do the same for them,? Occhialini said during his acceptance speech. ?I challenge everyone in this room to keep professing the joys of the welding experience ? in whatever form it takes. It is a great profession.?
Occhialini has been a member of AWS for more than 39 years and continues to chair several AWS committees. He is also a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers.
