Seco Tools announces the availability of its Double Octomill and Troubleshooter cutting tools, featuring a hard coating (HV 700) that leads to longer tool life, and designs that help achieve a competitive edge in the machining of cast iron components.
Seco Tool’s Double Octomill, featuring 16 cutting edges to help reduce the edge cost per insert, offers an economical solution for heavy metal removal. It also offers a positive cutting rake no matter what the cutter angle. This allows users to achieve higher cutting speeds for increased productivity and lower component cost. Additionally, this cutter can be used for both roughing and finishing since it features pocket seats that are adaptable to wiper inserts.
In field tests the Double Octomill has shown almost double the tool life as compared to competitive tools as well as achieving higher feeds and speeds. The Double Octomill cutters are available in both close- or super-close pitch, in sizes from 63-160 mm.
The Troubleshooter, featuring an 88 deg angle setting, is a high metal removal cutter intended for applications where it is critical to be able to reach 90 deg component walls or to machine closer to the fixture. This can eliminate secondary machining operations, which saves time and money. Additionally, the effective rake angle is typically positive to provide higher cutting speeds and higher productivity.
With a fixed pocket design, inserts are easy to index in a very secure manner. Field tests have shown the Troubleshooter to increase tool life by 20 percent in conjunction with a 17 percent increase in feed/speed as compared to competitive products.
The Troubleshooter is available in a close or super close pitch style with a variety of insert choices. It is also a good choice for shops that may not have the most stable equipment as this insert relies upon a corner chamfer instead of a radius to reduce axial forces and reduce vibration.
