MAG Cincinnati, the world's largest developer of aerospace composites manufacturing technologies and a global leader in large-scale metalworking production systems, has been named one of the fastest growing companies in the region by the Northern Kentucky Tri-County Economic Development Corporation (Tri-Ed). The company was one of 15 honored at a February 19th event sponsored by Tri-Ed and the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce to recognize new-company start-ups and business expansions.
"The economic vitality, lifestyle quality and strong work ethic of Northern Kentucky have undoubtedly contributed to our success since our move here in 2003," said Mark Logan, Vice President, Business Development and Marketing, MAG Americas. "MAG Cincinnati had a record year in 2007, exceeding our plan for new business, shipments and gross margin. We entered 2008 with a very healthy backlog and are making another capacity expansion beginning the second quarter with an increase in assembly floor space and additional crane capability."
That growth follows an earlier 25 percent increase in assembly space, along with full air conditioning and other facility investment in enhancing MAG Cincinnati's 200,000-square-foot state-of-the-art manufacturing plant. In 2005 the company became part of world manufacturing technology leader MAG Industrial Automation Systems, and has since added two buildings and increased staff by 25 percent.
MAG Cincinnati's principal markets are aerospace, heavy equipment, oilfield, energy and general machining. The company is the undisputed world leader in automated composites fabrication systems for aerospace, a rapidly growing market driven by massive increases in composites content for the new generation of Boeing and Airbus aircraft. MAG Cincinnati has supplied more than 50 percent of all existing automated composites machines for aerospace production worldwide.
Looking to continue its composites growth and U.S. technology leadership in high-performance non-metallic structures, MAG Cincinnati is finalizing plans for establishing and building a Composites Center of Excellence in the Northern Kentucky area, said Logan. Especially focused on solutions for the aerospace, defense, automotive and wind-energy industries, the new center will be a partnership of companies and organizations interested in advancing the science of automated composite manufacturing, he said. MAG Cincinnati will provide access to machinery and systems with opportunities for collaboration, education, and technology development.
