Sandvik Coromant has introduced the CoroThread 266, a new family of rigid, high-precision threading tools that provide increased productivity and stability. Offering superb value to the oil, gas and mechanical engineering industries, the new tool is available in 0.5 in and 0.625 in insert sizes. The CoroThread 266 achieves high levels of stability through the innovative iLock insert locking system. With this new design, an insert contains a slot for each of its three indexable cutting edges. When locked into place, these slots correspond to a raised guide rail on the actual tool, providing a much more stable interface.
The iLock system simplifies tool set-ups, eliminates potential insert movement during machining, and provides repeatability with high levels of accuracy. Additionally, iLock disperses cutting forces with no pressure points, reducing the strain on both tool and insert to provide longer tool life. As an extremely stable tool, the CoroThread 266 greatly reduces machining vibration to provide superior surface finishes. The E-tolerance of the system is 0.0004 in axially and 0.02 in radially, minimizing the effects of changing cutting edges to ensure maximum product consistency. Extensive testing has shown the CoroThread 266 to achieve increased cutting data, while providing longer tool life and higher productivity. www.coromant.sandvik.com/us
