Seco Tools Inc. has announced the availability of its newest generation Crownloc™ drilling system featuring new fully-hardened (R7 and R5) and low-friction nickel-coated drill bodies (-R7) as well as a stronger retention rod in 12 – 13 mm diameters. Additionally, a new grinding method and treatment have been employed on the replaceable crowns, enhancing the edge. A new chamfer module offering features two inserts for balanced cutting forces. As compared to competitive drills, the Crownloc system shows longer tool life and higher cutting data in a variety of materials. Crownloc is designed to reduce cost by allowing users to drill a different diameter within the same range (ie. 14.00 – 14.99 mm) using the same drill body, which is available in sizes 10-26 mm diameter and up to 7xd.
The crowns, available in .1 mm increments, are easily changed to eliminate the need for regrinding. And, since the precision is so accurate, resetting is not necessary. The system features a patented precision-ground interface of interlocking V-grooves to ensure rigidity and the exact, repeated positioning of each crown. Once the crown is mounted on the pull rod, the locking pattern is easy to find and allows for a perfect connection. Further, when the pull rod is tightened by the clamping screw, it exerts such a strong hold that the crown/body combination can withstand the same high feeds as a brazed drill. Crownloc is available in three geometries all designed for high metal removal rate and long tool life – a universal P geometry for most steel materials; an M geometry for stainless and high temperature alloys; and a K geometry for cast iron drilling. www.secotools.com
