Sandvik Coromant offers the CoroMill 490, the first in a new family of versatile shoulder-milling tools that provide cost reductions of up to 25 percent for face and shoulder milling operations in small to medium batch sizes.
It offers lower tool costs, reduced inventories, greater flexibility, higher precision and better tolerances. By using four-edge inserts with outstanding geometry design and new grades, this insert requires less cutting force, resulting in a smoother profile and reducing the amount of machining time spent on finishing.
To minimize tooling inventories and operational expenses, the CoroMill 490 is designed to excel in a wide variety of milling operations. The insert can be used for contouring and edging, semi- and finish-boring with cylindrical or helical interpolation and slot milling. By providing high performance across a spectrum of milling applications, it can replace expensive stocks of specialized tools and simplify production control.
For applications using near net shape precision forgings and castings, where reduced depths of cut and less final machining are required, this insert provides exceptional benefits. In these situations, the high levels of precision offered by the insert can allow for a finished product in just one pass.
This insert maximizes the potential of the New Insert Generation Milling Grades. Combined with unique geometries, these new grades machine high quality components in a productive, dependable, and predictable way, while holding tight tolerances. Unique features of the inserts include a new geometry of the parallel land, production of very thin chips, four main cutting edges and improved predictability.
Additionally, the insert geometry and new grades make the CoroMill 490 the first cutter with a true 90-deg cut without sharp steps or mismatches. This insert is available in diameters ranging from 1 in to 3 in for Arbor, Coromant Capto, cylindrical and Weldon shanks. Offered with L, M and H pitches, the new tool is offered in both metric and inch measurements.
