The Extrusion Americas unit of Hydro Aluminum (Linthicum, MD) has launched Extrusion Academy, a half-day technical workshop to help industrial designers, engineers and manufacturers understand the advantages of aluminum extrusions and how best to use them in product development.

The 2 1/2-hour program covers designing extrusion profiles for optimal performance, selecting alloys for specific uses, as well as fabrication techniques. Innovative applications will be shown to illustrate key concepts. The morning workshops will be held in conjunction with design/contract engineering trade shows, and will conclude with a casual lunch and an opportunity to view case examples and informally discuss design issues with Hydro experts. This fall?s schedule is as follows:

Oct. 14,
Phoenix, AZ,
AmCon Show,
Phoenix Convention Ctr.

Oct. 22,
Nashville, TN,
Design-2-Part Show,
Opryland Convention Ctr.

Nov. 19,
Pomona, CA,
Design-2-Part Show,
Fairplex LA Fairgrounds

Guests need not exhibit or participate at the trade shows to take part in Hydro?s Extrusion Academy.

"Creating new products is increasingly complex and can be incredibly frustrating and time-consuming,? said Lynn Brown, senior vice president, Extrusion Americas sales & marketing. ?Extrusion Academy will help participants understand how extruded aluminum may solve these problems. And if they?re already using aluminum extrusion, they?ll learn tips for improving product performance and possibly reducing manufacturing costs.?

Participants will also have the opportunity to see the award-winning GO mobile adventure camping trailer (www.sylvansport.com) and learn how unique aluminum extrusions contribute to its innovative functionality. Hydro supported SylvanSport in their development of the GO trailer and assembles it for SylvanSport at its Sidney, OH, facility.

Extrusion Academy is offered at no cost to qualified engineers, designers and manufacturing personnel. Pre-registration is required. To enroll, call 877-229-3557 or e-mail to extrusion@hydro.com.
