Atlas Technologies, Inc. (Fenton, MI) announces the receipt of an order for an Aluminum Blank Stacking System. The system will be delivered to Aluminum Blanking Company, an industry leader in the toll processing of surface sensitive materials in December of this year.

The state of the art system design will enable the customer to process surface sensitive aluminum and/or stainless steel from coil, into stacks of blanks in sizes up to 500 in x 110 in and stack weights of 30,000 pounds each. Additionally, the stacking system will have the ability to process blanks into two stacking stations with lift tables that may operate independently. The customer will have the ability to process blanks without interruption due to special configurations within the conveyance system thereby, dramatically increasing productivity.

Due to the nature of toll processing, Atlas Technologies incorporated a weight verification station into the material conveyance system to allow for absolute material accountability. Once weighed, the stack proceeds to a dual wrapping station with an immense material lift and transfer unit which allows operators to palletize the wrapped stack and send it to the second wrapping station where the pallet and stack are wrapped together which ensures safe and flawless transit to the end user.

A second workstation will be added to the side of the press for the processing of parts for computer mainframes. The mainframe station will utilize the same press, but will operate independently of the stacking equipment.

The controls system selected is a Rockwell Automation based platform including a CompactLogix controller, Kinetix servo and PowerFlex AC drives. To allow complete usage of the available floor space for the system, Atlas incorporated a mezzanine, which will hold all of the system control panels above the workable floor space.

The Atlas Technologies system was selected by Aluminum Blanking Company due to the considerable increase it will have in their productivity, though plant ergonomics and operator safety were also substantial determining factors in their selection.
