Lockheed Martin has approved Master Chemical's (Perrysburg, OH) TRIM® MicroSol® 585 to be used on titanium.

Two of the major divisions of Lockheed Martin that will heavily benefit from the use of MicroSol 585 are Aeronautics and Missiles and Fire Control, which develops, manufactures, and supports advanced combat, missile, rocket, and space systems for customers that include the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and NASA. These divisions and their subcontractors are using titanium and this approval allows them to use MicroSol 585 to machine these high tech aerospace alloys to make parts for aircraft like the F-22 and the new F- 35.

"MicroSol 585 is an excellent cutting fluid for titanium because it provides superior cooling and excellent lubricity which improves surface integrity, reduces residual stress, and creates more efficient machining," stated Master Chemical's Aerospace Segment Manager, Charles P. Gee. It is compatible and stain resistant with 6000 and 7000 series aluminums, titanium alloys, high- strength aircraft steels, and stainless steels. MicroSol 585 provides longer sump life and very low carryoff for reduced operating costs.

"Lockheed and its suppliers will greatly benefit from being able to use MicroSol 585 because it is easily recyclable and very environmentally friendly," commented Charles Gee. MicroSol 585 is biostable and low misting which lowers risk and minimizes disposal requirements. MicroSol 585 passes the stringent California Code of Federal Regulations "CCR Title 22 Fathead Minnow Hazardous Waste Screen Bioassay" test. An independent laboratory verified that MicroSol 585 at 10 percent receives the passing score of LC50>750 mg/l. MicroSol 585 has low chemical odor, no chlorinated or sulphurized EP additives, and no nitrites, triazines, or phenols.
