WALL-MOUNTED ROBOT PROVIDES PAINTING SOLUTION FOR THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY

ABB‘s FlexPainter IRB 5500 combines high acceleration, painting speed, large working envelope and unique configuration ? requiring fewer robots on the production line.

Posted: December 17, 2008

ABB Robotics offers its tailor-made painting solution for the automotive industry ? the FlexPainter IRB 5500. The unique design and configuration of the wall-mounted robot creates the largest and most flexible robot-working envelope of any exterior car body robot.

The IRB 5500 features:

? Speed ? the new generation of rotary high flow atomizers paints a car body faster than today?s industrial standard, while maintaining the highest quality level.

? Saved Space ? designed for tight installation, the robot takes up less space on the production line.

? Reduced costs ? since less spray booth space is needed, as well as fewer painting robots and associated equipment, the FlexPainter cuts costs in practice.

? High finish quality ? the robot?s arms move parallel to both vertical and horizontal car surfaces, eliminating the need for overlapping painting.

? High flow ? specifically designed for the FlexBell Cartridge System (CBS), the paint loss from a color change is close to zero.

? Control ? ABB?s exclusive Integrated Process System (IPS) provides high speed and accurate closed loop process control, minimizing over-spray.

? High uptime ? designed for 100 percent uptime, all process equipment is easily accessible on operator floor level. In addition, supporting ABB software allows for easy programming and process tuning without production interruptions.
