Unilux (Saddle Brook, NJ) has named Chris Kapsalis as software development manager. He will oversee expansion of the company?s software systems department in the development of smarter stroboscopic and pulsed LED lighting systems for inspection, motion analysis and other industrial processes. Kapsalis will report to Michael Simonis, president of Unilux, the world?s leading designer and manufacturer of industrial stroboscopic and pulsed LED inspection and analysis systems. Kapsalis comes to Unilux after operating a software development firm for the past five years. He has more than 25 years of experience in the field, including work for Unilux.

?Chris brings Unilux a highly organized, structured growth plan to develop smarter, more powerful tools for our current customers in the steel and other industries as well as for predictive maintenance and troubleshooting,? Simonis said. ?He also will help us design products for industries and markets we have targeted for entry. He has an enthusiastic dedication to customer service and a team orientation in moving Unilux into a new level of product development.?

Simonis said that software will play a key role in developing smarter industrial products that enable workers to use their knowledge of processes more effectively to increase productivity and profitability while responding more rapidly to their customers? demands.

?We are demand-driven,? Simonis said. ?Serving our customers requires us to be consultants who work with them to identify solutions to their manufacturing issues. Then, we can use our expertise in lighting system design, electro-mechanical engineering and software integration to build the product that solves the problem.?

Unilux solutions are built around stroboscopic surface inspection lighting that enables operators to spot defects at full production speeds, which can exceed 2,200 feet per minute (750 meters per minute).Operators can use their knowledge of products and production systems to determine the severity of the defect and take steps to find and eliminate its cause. The company has combined its high-speed inspection lighting with high-speed video and photography systems to provide engineering departments with visual data to develop long-term solutions to repetitive production problems.

Unilux designs and manufactures stroboscopic and pulsed LED inspection lights ranging from handheld, battery-powered units for spot or narrow-web inspection or maintenance or troubleshooting applications to fixed-mounted units capable of inspecting surfaces up to 36 feet (12m) wide either individually or in combination. Unilux lights are designed to withstand industrial environments, including the heat and humidity of steel mills.
