Makino?s (Auburn Hills, MI) 2009 Advanced Manufacturing and High-Precision Technology Expo will be held September 16-17 at the Auburn Hills Michigan Tech Center. Attendees will have the opportunity to gain industry leading advice and witness cutting edge machining demonstrations from Makino and other prominent companies.

Makino's bi-annual expo continues to support manufacturers with industry leading technologies and techniques. Featured presenters at the event include IRN owner and president, Kim Korth, who will discuss what's ahead for the North American auto industry, Partner of Booz & Company, Conrad Winkler, will address how manufacturers can leap from decline to revitalization, and Dr. Samuel D. Kahan, senior economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago's Detroit Branch, will discuss the current recession and provide a forecast into 2010. Additional presentations delivered by Makino will cover a diversity of machining topics from micromachining to automation.

Makino?s Technology Center is located at 2600 Superior Court, Auburn Hills, Michigan, 48326. The building is at Superior and Lapeer roads (M-24), one-mile from I-75 and M-24 off E. Walton Boulevard. It is 31 miles from the Greater Detroit Airport, and is near The Palace at Auburn Hills, a major sports venue in the area.

Featured Speakers

Kim Korth, owner and president of IRN Inc., founded her company in 1983. During her early experience, Ms. Korth observed that small and medium-sized manufacturers had a tendency to run very lean when it came to staffing for market analysis and strategy development.

She decided to start a firm that would be a resource for these manufacturers, allowing them to plug in and out of IRN?s operations on an as-needed basis. This approach gives manufacturers access to top-notch information and analysis without the expense of maintaining that capability in-house. History has proven that the premise was valid.

Today, IRN has 15 employees and an active client base of more than 100 companies. In addition to its headquarters in Grand Rapids, the company has offices in Southfield, Michigan, and Zurich, Switzerland. IRN has gained national prominence as one of the premier consulting firms serving automotive suppliers, but its experience extends to many industries.

Conrad Winkler is a Partner of Booz & Company, based in Chicago, and an expert in manufacturing strategy, manufacturing transformation, and supply chain management. He was previously a nuclear submariner in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Winkler has led more than 40 projects on manufacturing strategy and left his footprint across multiple industries ranging from automotive vehicles to automotive tier one to aerospace to building products and industrials. In addition, he is a practitioner of product strategy, supply chain management, and knowledge-based sourcing across several industries.

He's the author of numerous articles and publications on manufacturing, supply chain, and other operations-related topics, including, ?Make or Break: How Manufacturers Can Leap from Decline to Revitalization?.

Mr. Winkler holds an MBA from Northwestern University?s Masters of Management in Manufacturing program (a joint program between the Kellogg Graduate School of Management and the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Sciences), and a BS in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dr. Samuel D. Kahan is currently Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago's Detroit Branch. Keeping tabs on developments in the local economy is the primary focus of his attention. Prior to joining the Federal Reserve System, Dr. Kahan was president of A.S.K. Financial Research, Ltd. The company, based in Chicago, was organized to provide micro and macro-economic consultancy to business, financial institutions, and governments, particularly in the fields of economic analysis and financial markets.

Sam received his undergraduate degree in economics from Yeshiva University and his graduate degrees in economics from Columbia University.
