KBC Tools & Machinery, Inc. (Sterling Heights, MI) offers affordable and tough Union Butterfield taps for everyday use and mass production. KBC has many types of these taps in stock: General purpose taper, plug, and bottoming hand taps come in sizes ¼-20 NC to 1½-12 NC/NF (price: $3.30 – $152.54). Spiral pointed hand taps are commonly referred to as “gun taps” and are excellent for production tapping of through holes. Their flute design forces the evacuation of chips ahead of the cutting action. These come in sizes ¼-20 NC to 9/16-12 NC (price: $4.33 to $30.13).

Fast spiral taps feature a flute design which draws chips out of the hole. They come in ¼-20 NC to 5/16-24 NF (price: $6.75 – $18.64). Taper pipe taps come in two styles: NPT, which are used to produce tapered pipe threads in a wide range of pipe connections, and NPTF, which create pressure-tight joints and are used for fuel or fluid applications. NPT taps come in sizes 1/16-27 to 2-11-½ (price: $14.47 – $182.41). NPTF taps come in sizes 1/16-27 to 1½ -11-½ (price: $16.07 – $150.84).
