HIGH FEED MILLS ACHIEVE TEN TIMES METAL REMOVAL RATE

High feed per tooth, coupled with shallow depth of cut, achieves 3X to 10X metal removal rate for near net shape finishes.

Seco Tools Inc. will display its complete line of tooling developed to handle high feed milling (HFM) applications where, by taking a shallow depth of cut (.080 inch or less) with high feed per tooth, productivity triples as compared to traditional milling.

With the HFM approach, you can remove over 61 cu in per minute. Near net shapes are easily achievable, allowing users to skip semi-finishing and go directly to finish. The result is that you reduce the machining time for every component. Additionally, cutting forces are directed through the machine spindle in the axial direction, which helps to reduce vibrations and extends tool life.

The HFM method uses small setting angles to achieve small depths of cut, which reduces the risk of vibrations and stabilizes machining. This, in turn, allows for raised cutting parameters even when machining with a large overhang. These HFM tools are capable of face milling, copy milling, cavity milling, helical interpolation, PCBN milling, and plunging solutions.

Characteristics of an HFM tool include:

? Thick inserts with large radius and strong geometry at the cutting zone

? Small setting angles to minimize radial- and maximize axial-force

? Nickel Chrome alloy coating on cutter bodies for prolonged life

? Broad range of holder lengths and insert diameters (trigon, square and round)

? Insert grades that can machine all materials

Seco offers a comprehensive brochure that outlines all of its available tools for high feed milling applications. The company is part of Seco Tools AB (Fagersta, Sweden), a leader in metalworking technologies that is committed to solving its customers? ever-increasing demands for greater productivity, quality and cost-effectiveness by offering a full range of tools for milling, turning, holemaking, and threading applications as well as service and software solutions.
