Hydro Aluminum (Linthicum, MD) was named the top aluminum company in the new Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) and is the only aluminum producer to make the DJSI-World Index. The DJSI World list comprises the top 10 percent of performers from each industry. This is the fourth year in a row that Hydro has ranked first among aluminum manufacturers.

The DJSI is regarded by many as the world?s most important sustainability ranking, and it is an important guide for investors and other stakeholders for assessing companies? non-financial performance. Hydro received top marks for reporting on risk and crisis management, its ethical principles, transparency, environmental policy and management, biodiversity and climate strategy.

?The DJSI is an important benchmark tool for us, confirming that we are on the right track and giving us information on areas where we can improve further,? said Kirsten M. Hovi, who is responsible for Hydro?s non-financial reporting.

Hydro has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index every year since it launched in 1999. ?This marks 10 years that Hydro has ranked on the Dow Jones Index, and it?s great to see our efforts are being recognized,? said Lynn Brown, senior vice president for sales and marketing for Hydro?s Extrusion Americas unit. ?Our commitment to recycling aluminum via our remelt network, and our emphasis on developing aluminum?s role in solar and renewable energy further confirm Hydro?s focus on sustainability.?

Extrusion Americas is a unit of Norsk Hydro, a global supplier of aluminum and aluminum products. Based in Norway, the company employs 23,000 people in 40 countries and has activities on all continents. Hydro is the world?s third-largest aluminum supplier, the largest single manufacturer of primary metal and extruded aluminum products in Europe, and a leader in delivering innovative light metal solutions to the automotive and building industries worldwide.

In North America, Hydro provides aluminum solutions including supply sourcing, extrusion, finishing, and fabrication of components, as well as engineering and contract manufacturing services, for a variety of industries. "
