INTEGRATED DIE-SINKING EDM FOR OIL FIELD APPLICATIONS

The AT Spirit 4 OFS from GF AgieCharmilles uses a fast setup and simple operation to handle everything from simple repair jobs to complex multiple cavities.

GF AgieCharmilles (Lincolnshire,IL) recently developed the AT Spirit 4 OFS (Oil Field Special), a completely integrated die-sinking system that accommodates work pieces once considered "too long for EDM." Offering fast setup and simple operation, the AT Spirit 4 OFS handles a comprehensive range of applications, from simple repair jobs to complex multiple cavities.

GF AgieCharmilles designed the AT Spirit 4 OFS with a special opening on the work table that allows tall parts with a maximum ø 9.84 in to sit inside the dielectric tank. The opening can be self-contained in the machine or configured to go completely through the casting and a specially prepared foundation for extra long tube or pipe applications. This deep tube configuration not only allows machining of internal or face details of very long shafts, but also standard die-sinking EDM applications.

Featuring a CE-compliant design that provides thermal stability over long periods of time, the AT Spirit 4 OFS has a unique manual-centering mode that precisely centers an electrode in an existing cavity. This feature is extremely useful for repairs and minimizing time spent on CNC programming. Additionally, the integration of the C-axis adds capability for rotation, indexing and complex erosion, even under high-amperage cutting conditions.

The system's highly flexible user interface reduces programming times to minutes instead of hours by simplifying complex job programming for multi-cavity, planetary, helical shape, deep rib and four-axis erosion. The system also provides full erosion-path contouring capabilities. GF AgieCharmilles also included Automatic Erosion Programming that makes it easy for users to select erosion technologies by application type, set minimum wear and maximum removal priorities and get perfect results on the first try. Some of the built-in planetary (orbiting) application technologies on the unit are: EQUIMODE, circular orbit, 2D vector, 3D vector, continuous rotation, continuous circle or sphere, and contouring.

Additionally, the AT Spirit 4 OFS possesses a 104-amp APG generator, highly rigid bridge type construction and a 15-position electrode magazine that is integrated into the work tank. The AT Spirit 4 OFS is a true "Plug & Play" EDM system that enables start up and production within an hour of delivery.
