Janco Steel Limited (Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada) is undergoing a major expansion of its service center, including expansion of its processing capabilities. As a part of this expansion, they recently ordered a Red Bud Industries' (Red Bud, IL) combination stretcher leveler/multi-blanking line. The new line will be able to multi-blank material up to .188 in (4.7 mm) thick and edge trim and stretcher level material up to .250 in (6.35 mm).

Featured in the line will be Red Bud?s precision grip feed system and CNC programmable slitter. This combination of machines will give Janco the capability of producing blanks with width and length tolerances of +.005 in (.127 mm). The CNC Slitter can be set up in less than two minutes per cut, thus eliminating costly downtime that can occur when using conventional packed arbor slitters.

An additional advantage to the system will be the automatic strip divider positioning. While the operator is setting up the slitting head, the strip divider positioning system will automatically set up the dividers in the strip stacker. When the operator has finished setting up the slitting head, the strip stacker will be ready to run blanks.

Also featured in the line will be Red Bud?s adjustable non-marking stretcher leveler. The stretcher leveler can produce the flattest most stable material possible while operating virtually independent of incoming strip shape and severity. The operator simply stretches the material until it is flat. The result is a flat product that will stay flat and is particularly well suited for laser cutting applications where flatness is essential.

The new line will be capable of processing coils up to 80,000 lb (36,287 kg) at widths up to 72 in (1829 mm) and thicknesses up to .250 in (6.35 mm). It will consist of a four-arm powered turnstile, coil lift, uncoiler, heavy gage peeler breaker, crop shear, dual roller levelers, thread system, adjustable non-marking stretcher leveler, combination vacuum/brush unit, dual-motor grip feed, CNC programmable slitter, automatic scrap choppers, shear, combination drop/strip stacker, automatic part diverter, automatically lowering stack table, and side discharge rollouts.
