TOHKEN BEGINS CONSOLIDATION OF HEAT TREATMENT PLANTS

Japanese manufacturer will close four production sites in preparation for a new heat-treatment facility that will open in 2014.

Posted: August 2, 2010

Tohken Thermo (Tokyo, Japan) is finalizing land purchases in Hashimoto, which is in the Kinki region of Japan, in the prefecture of Wakayama, and soon will begin designing a heat-treatment facility with the aid of Okumura Engineering Corporation (Osaka). The facility will concentrate on the heat treatment of automobile parts and construction machinery.

In May, Tohken Thermo Company Limited (Osaka, Japan) acquired land from the city of Hashimoto to begin company consolidation efforts. If all goes according to plan, construction on the facility will commence during the third quarter of next year. Production scale has not been disclosed, though the facility will be housed on a 22,446 sq m plot.

Once the facility is complete and operational in 2014, Tohken Thermo plans to close its four existing production facilities in Osaka Prefecture, including the leading facility at the headquarters. No word has been released on what Tohken plans to do with the defunct facilities; however, it plans to introduce advanced technologies and new types of heat-treatment equipment at the new US$28.5 million Hashimoto facility. Afterwards, the company will relocate its headquarters to Hashimoto to stay on top of production and sales.

Tohken Thermo, founded in 1927, was one of the first Japanese companies to specialize in the heat treatment of metals, including industrial metals and automobile parts. It has diversified over the years, extending its business into the manufacturing of heat treatment equipment and sales, as well as thin-film processing.
