Lincoln Electric Announces 4Q10 Motorsports Welding School Schedule

The Motorsports Welding School uses hands-on applications to teach students the fundamentals of welding on racecars and expand their knowledge from basic to advanced materials.

Posted: October 20, 2010

Lincoln Electric (Cleveland, OH) announced its Motorsports Welding School class schedule for the fourth quarter of 2010. Individuals can learn the fundamentals of welding on race cars in the Basic Materials course or expand their knowledge through the Advanced Materials course.

All five-day classes, held at Lincoln's corporate headquarters in Cleveland, are taught by expert instructors in fabrication and are 70 percent hands on:

Basic Materials Courses are offered Nov. 8-12 and Nov. 29-Dec 3.
Advanced Materials Courses are offered Nov. 15-19 and Dec. 6-10.

Courses include instructions on why and how to back purge titanium, inconel and stainless, the use of gas lens torches, proper filler metal/base metal selection, TIG welding, MIG welding and alloys. This year, advanced course students are also eligible to receive an Aerospace (D17.1) certification.

The cost of the Basic Materials Course is $575 for members (those currently using Lincoln equipment for fabrication on their race team) and $755 for nonmembers. The Advanced Materials Course runs $800 for members and $980 for nonmembers. Class size is limited to 12 students, enabling instructors to provide specialized instruction to each individual. Classes fill up fast, so those interested are encouraged to register at least one month in advance.

"After taking the Advanced Motorsports Training, I've gained knowledge on machines and materials that I have never used before. It helped me expand my skills further, and the books we were able to keep are a good reference," says Mike Sichette, Stewart-Haas Racing.

In addition to these classes, Lincoln frequently provides race teams with technical support and trackside welding assistance.
