Kennametal‘s (Latrobe, PA) KCPM15 is the first Beyond grade for solid-carbide end mills. Featuring an improved high-performance carbide substrate with proprietary aluminum titanium nitride (AlTiN) PVD coating, KCPM15 is engineered to deliver up to 30 percent longer tool life milling steels and stainless steels due to improved resistance to cratering, flank wear, and depth-of-cut notch.
“Tests measuring flank wear after 300 feet showed other solid-carbide end mills with commercial coatings had more than twice the flank wear of KCPM15,” says Oliver Sax, senior global product manager, solid end mills. “Whether roughing steels or finishing stainless steel, KCPM15 solid-carbide end mills showed demonstrably longer tool life and improved surface conditions.”
