The No. 871 box furnace from Grieve uses three modulating natural gas burners with a floor-mounted combustion air blower to achieve 650,000 BTU/hr and reach 2000 deg F for high temperature applications.

The No. 871 is an electrically heated 2000 deg F (~1093.3 deg C) gas-heated box furnace from The Grieve Corporation that is currently used for heat treating and high-temperature testing. 650,000 BTU/HR are installed in three modulating natural gas burners with a floor-mounted combustion air blower. Workspace dimensions are 30 in wide x 48 in deep x 30 in high.
The unit has 7 in insulated walls composed of 5 in of 2300 deg F ceramic fiber and 2 in of 1700 deg F block insulation. The 6½-in floor insulation is made of 4½ in of 2300 deg F firebrick and 2 in of 1900 deg F block insulation. The plate hearth is made of firebrick and is supported by firebrick piers.
