It seems more and more utility companies today are improving and updating their equipment infrastructure and converting their entire distribution system from wood to steel poles. But for many companies that manufacture utility poles, there’s one obvious choice for production equipment – Pacific Press Technologies (Mt. Carmel, IL), a leader in hydraulic presses and metal fabrication equipment for over 60 years that has supplied more steel pole production systems than any other source in the U.S.

What drives many manufacturers to Pacific is the company’s exclusive “Total System” approach to pole production equipment including process automation. From feeding and bending to extraction and stacking equipment, Pacific can also provide all the necessary safety features, operational controls and conveyor systems for start-to-finish steel pole fabrication.

This “Total System” approach provides for queuing blanks in random order and orientation from 10 ft to 60 ft long. A single operator starts the efficient and automated process which loads the blank, positions it for each bend sequence, then checks and corrects the bend angle. When the part is complete, the equipment extracts and accumulates the finished poles.

According to Gordan Baker, the vice president and director of product technologies at Pacific Press, “Once the equipment is in place, our customers have a complete, proven and totally integrated system for pole fabrication – all in one site. That’s what sets us apart from other companies who only sell individual machines.” The key benefit to this system is that manufacturers not only improve the speed of our steel pole output, but they also improve the quantity and quality of their finished products.

Another benefit is that each tandem pole system is customized to accommodate the requirements of individual plant facilities – from site capacity to raw material handling to finished pole specifications.
