Macsteel Service Centers USA (Newport Beach, CA) expanded its business operations in the Southeast this spring with the opening of a new 60,000 sq ft distribution center in Lakeland, FL. The Lakeland facility will service the entire state by stocking a full range of ERW pipe in Grades A, B and seamless. Future plans call for the product line to include flat rolled products.

Clint Bitzer was named as the warehouse supervisor for the new facility. Don Whalen, the sales manager for pipe products for the Southeast Division of Macsteel, will manage sales in the Florida territory. Macsteel also hired three new employees to initially staff the Lakeland distribution center.

“We are excited about this expansion and believe that it will strongly enhance our product and service offering in the Southeast U.S.,” said Rich O’Toole, the president of Eastern North American. “This location is ideal, as it is close to Tampa, the ports, and will allow us to capably service the major cities in the Florida market, with a full offering of pipe and flat rolled products.”

The Lakeland facility will operate as part of the Southeast Division under the leadership of Robert Cromley, the division president. Macsteel Service Centers is a top company in the North American metals Service Center Industry, with a network of 30 locations that includes the former Edgcomb Metals, Regal Steel Company, Baldwin Steel, Ferro Union, Hokin Katz and Alpha Steel, all of which now operate as Macsteel Service Centers USA.

Macsteel Service Centers USA processes and distributes carbon stainless, aluminum and specialty metals to customers throughout North America, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Products include a full range of flat rolled, plate, tubing, pipe, bar and structural steel, with 2010 sales of approximately $1.3 billion and 1,183 employees. The company also supplies a full range of steel building products as well as coated and prepainted metals. The company is owned by Macsteel Global B.V., a Macsteel Holdings Group Company which itself manages volumes of some 45 mt annually.

In February, Macsteel Service Centers USA acquired the assets and business of Steel Coil Services (Catoosa, OK), a subsidiary of United States Steel Corporation (Pittsburgh, PA).
