These horizontal machining centers from are ideal for machining large components for wind power stations, aircraft, tractors and agricultural machinery, construction machinery, pumps and compressors.
StarragHeckert (Rorschacherberg, Switzerland) offers a complete range of Athletic horizontal machining centers from sizes 400 mm to 5500 mm. These large-scale machining centers include pallet sizes from 1000 mm x 800 mm to 1800 mm x 1250 mm.
The Athletic HEC 1000, HEC 1250, HEC 1600 and HEC 1800 guarantee optimum results for the machining of larger and heavier workpieces with an edge length of up to 3300 mm and a mass of 13000 kg. Typical of this series are the modular design and, therefore, the flexible adjustment to the technological function. The made-to-measure individual machining center becomes reality.
The modular design includes the main components, the complete tool and workpiece handling, the main spindle and the control system. The range of main spindles gives an opportunity to choose between a horizontal main spindle with different performance and speed ranges, a horizontal/vertical milling head for five-sided machining and an adjustable NC quill in two versions. An NC quill with a diameter of 125 mm and an adjustment range of 500 mm is provided for the sizes 1000, 1250 and 1600. A high-performance quill with a diameter of 150 mm, an adjustment range of 750 mm and a power of 56 kW is available for the sizes 1600 and 1800. Thus deep drill holes and surfaces, as well as long tours, are machined in a time-saving and highly precise manner.
The workpiece handling also has many variations. Thus, automatic pallet change is possible with 2-, 3- or 4-fold changer in frontal and lateral supply. The workpiece handling is performed via a chain magazine with 60 or 80 storage positions. Tower magazines with 180, 240 or 320 positions cover a larger demand for tools. Both types of magazines are designed for tools with a length of up to 800 mm and diameter of up to 325 mm. Even tools with a single mass of 50 kg can be stored and automatically changed in the tower magazine.
Profiled rail guides are used in all linear axes. These axes are driven by digital AC feed drives with pre-stressed ball screws. In addition to the high machine stiffness, they constitute the guarantee for machine precision (for example, ±4µm) and long-term accuracy. A pivoting central control panel, good accessibility to the clamping station with safety light barrier, complex working room protection with sound insulation and emission exhaust system in the working room as well as a shower and a purge gun for cleaning the workpiece guarantee ease of use and the compliance with high safety standards.
The service and diagnostic system SAM (Service Assistant Module), which is designed in a modular way, improves the accessibility of the machines and reduces the maintenance costs. Athletic machining centers are equipped with a modern Siemens and/or Fanuc CNC control. A wide range of control and monitoring devices for the machine-tool-workpiece system increases the degree of automation and reduces costs for tools and maintenance.
In all branches of metal processing industry, Athletic machining centers are flexibly applicable for ready-to-install complete machining of a wide range of workpieces. The main focus is on wind power stations, aircraft industry, construction of tractors and agricultural machinery, construction machinery industry and pump and compressor construction. They are used as stand-alone machines, as manufacturing cells with circular and linear storage units for pallets and as basic machines in flexible production systems.
