These advanced high performance boring and milling technologies provide extreme flexibility so that components that once had to be machined on several machines can now be produced in just one set up.
Soraluce America, Inc. (Rockford, IL) is a global leader in the design and manufacture of advanced technology and high performance boring and milling machines, including its two most recent patented technologies: the Dynamic CNC Ram Balance System and the Modular Quill Changing System.
Dynamic Ram Balance automatically corrects for the effects of spindle droop when the quill of the machine is advanced to its fully-extended position anywhere within its working envelope, which can be up to 7 m of travel in the vertical axis. It adjusts the ram traverse over the Y and Z axis, correcting both the position and the angle of the cutting tool with respect to the horizontal working plane. This CNC-controlled electromechanical system, which is carried in the vertical saddle, is integrated with the automatic head changing system and can correct the mechanical ram deviation for different milling heads that can vary in weight between 20 kg and massive 1,600 kg.
Ram Balance guarantees a maximum deviation of less than 0.04 mm for the ram droop at the spindle nose and 0.04 mm/m over the complete ram traverse of 1900 mm, with results typically below 0.025 mm and 0.025 mm/m respectively.
The patented Modular Quill changing system combines the benefits of traditional boring machines with the latest boring mill machine technologies. This unique and innovative system enables automatic interchange of standard milling heads with quill spindles between 130 mm and 180 mm in diameter and between 700 mm and 1,000 mm in length. Additionally, the spindle axis of the indexing head is the same as the spindle nose of the boring bar, allowing 5-sided machining in the same set-up without any additional positioning of the workpiece. www.soraluce-america.com
