An overview of the company and its organization, products, services and capabilities.

PlasmaCAM, a company that manufactures and sells state-of-the-art CNC plasma cutting tables, is located in the mountains of Colorado City, Colorado. The design of the machine and its subsequent software began in 1994, and has since become one of the world’s best selling automated plasma cutting systems.

Plasma cutting is explained as the process of using electricity to superheat air into the fourth state of matter- plasma. With the use of compressed air and AC power, the heated air is blown through the metal. This method ensures accurate cuts at exceptional speed. Using plasma to cut sheet metal has been gaining industry momentum because of its quality cuts and high speeds. These factors lower production costs, decrease the need for secondary operations, and ensure work is done in the most efficient manner possible.

Additionally, because of its powerful arc, most fumes resulting from plasma cutting are emitted below the plate being cut. This creates a cleaner, safer environment for all involved. Due to an in-depth video manual, the machine is easy to assemble and use. The PlasmaCAM machine consists of a rugged frame with integral cutting grate, drive components with servo motors, a controller and electronics, and the optional high-tech Digital Height Control.

Because the machine is automated, it slows when cutting around corners and holes and speeds up when cutting back along a kerf. The decision to use closed-loop servo controllers stems from PlasmaCAM’s dedication to producing top of the line products. Unlike other open-loop controllers, like stepper motors, the servo motor has a higher resolution for position control. This saves time by ensuring a perfectly cut design the first time.

PlasmaCAM is a successful company because it sees and understands the importance of manufacturing and selling a complete, integrated package. Unlike other companies that offer stand-alone tables, PlasmaCAM engineered its software and machine to work in perfect unison. This seamlessness creates a work environment that is more efficient, creative, and precise. It’s an ‘every man’ kind of product because of its affordability and simplicity and is easy to learn with resources like the video manual and PlasmaCAM’s technical service department.

PlasmaCAM has focused all its efforts on this one machine to ensure customers receive a perfectly integrated system that is simple to learn and use. A belief in hard work and a dedication to perfection encompasses its products. Above all, PlasmaCAM hopes to inspire and encourage people with varying metalworking backgrounds to make their mark in metal.
