An overview of the company and its organization, products, services and capabilities.

SCHUNK is a family-owned company and a global player in one. For more than 60 years, SCHUNK has been setting standards when it comes to technological leadership and long-term capabilities. With more than 1,800 employees and a network of directly owned subsidiaries and distribution partners in more than 50 countries all over the world, SCHUNK as the competence leader for clamping technology and gripping systems that can offer superior customer service and technical support worldwide.

With its complete offering of toolholding, workholding, and gripping systems, SCHUNK is a reliable, all-in-one source covering all areas from the machine spindle to robotics. For example, our TENDO E compact Universal Hydraulic Toolholder started a new era in tool clamping. With this advanced toolholder it is no longer required to use different holder technologies for milling, drilling, and reaming.  For the first time ever, hydraulic expansion toolholders can safely transfer torques of up to 520 Nm (384 ft-lb) at a 20 mm clamping diameter and are perfectly suited for high volume cutting. With excellent vibration damping and precise run out accuracy of less than 0.003 mm (0.0001 in) at 2,5 x D, the TENDO E compact protects the machine spindle and the cutting tool from damage. The attractively-priced hydraulic expansion toolholder works well across the application range from rough milling to finish operations such as reaming and fine milling.

In roughing operations, tool cost reductions of up to 40 % have been achieved with TENDO E compact. Tools can be quickly changed with an Allen key, making this hydraulic expansion toolholder an excellent alternative for operations where the toolholder quantities do not justify peripheral equipment purchases. Common spindle connections are available, including interfaces HSK-A63, SK40, BT40, CAT40, and CAT50.

Another example is our TRIBOS-Mini Toolholder that directly clamps the smallest of tool shanks consistently along the entire axis.  Machining medical, dental and micro level parts are the most challenging applications faced today. This innovative toolholder from SCHUNK eliminates troublesome collets, collet nuts, and inconsistent tool clamping. With run-out accuracy of less than 3 microns and a balance grade of G2.5 at 25,000 rpm, high rpm and fast feed rates are achievable.

Unique in the proven TRIBOS design is the direct clamping through the elasticity of the tool holder material.  The patented TRIBOS technology utilizes a polygon form in the clamping bore to generate the clamping. Cutting tool clamping results are simplified without the influence of an operator.  The holder is inserted into the TRIBOS press and the cutting tool is released in less than 30 seconds. Manual mounting and changing of tools in TRIBOS-Mini toolholders and TRIBOS-Mini extensions has never been so efficient. The new SVP-Mini clamping device enables SCHUNK-Minis to be clamped simply for micromachining as far as the back stop, saving time and significantly reducing set-up costs.

This handy and compact clamping device is distinguished by its simple handling and covers the entire TRIBOS-Mini range (D2-dimension 9 mm) without any additional reduction inserts. This not only makes it a low-cost acquisition but cheap to use as well. The SVP-Mini can be fastened both horizontally and vertically to the workbench while direct clamping and unclamping on the spindle are also possible. TRIBOS-Mini offers all of the benefits of the TRIBOS family, with an extensive line of holders and extensions. Compromises are no longer necessary when clamping small cutting tools.
