These centrifugal mist collectors and modular static filters are ideal mist collection systems for all kinds of machine tools, from small lathes and grinding machines to the largest machining centers.

In Booth E-5718 are the Darwin line of centrifugal mist collectors from Losma, Inc. (Sparta, NJ). With throughputs from 353 cfm to 1,767 cfm (600 to 3,000 cu m per hour), the Darwin’s wide flow-rate range makes it an ideal mist collection system for all kinds of machine tools, from small lathes and grinding machines to the largest machining centers.

The Darwin line’s operating principle involves the use of centrifugal force to push oil mists through an annular filter medium. Collected oil is sent back to the machine tool through a drainage pipe. Three centrifugal designs are available to meet different application needs:

  • Turbine filters air containing soluble mists and heavy particulate. Typical applications include abrasive grinding and sharpening processes.
  • Single centrifuge works best on soluble mists produced by general machining operations.
  • Double centrifuge filters neat oil mists and vapors produced by general machining operations

Darwin is designed for extreme flexibility in both mounting and configuration options. Its unique and patented design, for example, allows mounting in vertical and horizontal orientation, making it easy to integrate the unit with a variety of machine tool types. Darwin units support over 150 different configurations with pre- and post-filter stages that can adapt these filters to a variety of mists and particulate types.

Also being exhibited are the Icarus line of modular static filters used to capture mists from neat oils and emulsions. Icarus offers HEPA filtration efficiencies to 99.95 percent thanks to the Green Biofilter, a long-lasting natural fiber filter medium.

Three sizes are available, covering a capacity of 353 cfm  to 1,178 cfm (600 to 2,000 cu m per hour). Icarus can be configured with a variety of pre- and post- filtration stages to adapt to heavy smoke, heavy mist applications. Electrostatic cells, HEPA 13 filters and activated carbon can all be added to Icarus configurations.

Icarus uses high energy-efficient Class IE2 motors to minimize operating costs while remaining easy to-maintain, with easy access to all filter stages. Its compact construction starts with dimensions at 100 x 55 x 55 mm, compact enough for side-by-side installation with even the smallest machine tools. www.losma.com
