The DooCell robot cell control and diagnostic system from Doosan Machine Tools simplifies operations and uses a Puma 700LY turning center to machine a wide range of hard-to-cut materials in a single chucking.

The DooCell manufacturing cell from Doosan Machine Tools (Pine Brook, NJ) is the company’s newest entry into automated cell design, with convenience features unmatched by other commercially available systems.

DooCell’s most distinguishing feature is its robot cell control and diagnostic system. Its simple design and operating features eliminate the day-to-day need for complex robot pendants, allowing the operator to assess performance and diagnose problems such as grippers not closing on a part, a bad switch in the system, the chuck failing to open, and other common or not-so-common conditions that might arise.

It’s simple to use: Teach the robot three pick points and it’s ready to go. Even the least skilled personnel can operate the DooCell at high levels of efficiency and productivity. The status and diagnostic system is designed for maximum convenience. Its configuration enables personnel to monitor a cell from a single screen, and its touch-screen design eliminates keyboards.

In addition to the convenience of the status and diagnostic system, DooCell’s layout allows the robot arm to reach stock and parts in even the most remote sections of the pallet, and it does so without the need for cumbersome, maintenance-intensive drawers and trays. The result is a compact design that, when encased in a cage, measures 77 in x 77 in, excluding the machine tool. Equipped with either a Fanuc M10 or M20, the robot can lift parts up to 7 lb or 12 lb.

For parts up to 29.5 in dia x 128 in long, turned quickly with mirror finishes and micron precision, nothing surpasses the powerhouse performance of Doosan’s new Puma 700LY turning center, which now adds Y-axis motion that enables machining of a greater range of products in a single chucking.
