DS-30 Series Y-axis turning centers from Haas combine dual-spindle turning with Y-axis, C-axis, and live tooling to reduce cycle times with fully synchronized turning and off-center milling, drilling, and tapping for on-the-fly part pass-off.

The DS-30 Series Y-axis turning centers from Haas Automation, Inc. (Oxnard, CA) combine dual-spindle turning with Y-axis, C-axis, and live tooling to create powerful “done-in-one” machining solutions for any shop. The opposed spindles support fully synchronized turning and allow on-the-fly part pass-off to reduce cycle times. The machines come standard with high-torque live tooling and a servo-driven C-axis and provide 4 in of Y-axis travel (±2 in from centerline) for off-center milling, drilling, and tapping.

These machines are available in standard and Super Speed configurations. The standard DS-30Y has a maximum cutting capacity of 18 in x 23 in and is equipped with a 12-station hybrid BOT/VDI turret. The A2-6 main spindle features an 8.3 in hydraulic chuck and is powered by a 30 hp vector drive system that provides 300 ft-lb of torque. The A2-5 secondary spindle also has an 8.3 in hydraulic chuck and is powered by a 20 hp vector drive system that provides 135 ft-lb of cutting torque. Both spindles turn to 4000 rpm, and have a 2.0 in bar capacity. Rapids are 945 ipm on the X- and Z-axes, and 500 ipm on the Y axis.

The Super Speed DS-30SSY has a maximum cutting capacity of 16 in x 23 in and is equipped with a 24-station hybrid BOT/VDI turret. The A2-6 main spindle features an 8.3 in hydraulic chuck and is powered by a 30 hp vector drive system that provides 275 ft-lb of torque. The A2-5 secondary spindle has an 8.3 in hydraulic chuck and is powered by a 20 hp vector drive system that provides 110 ft-lb of cutting torque. Both spindles turn to 4800 rpm, and have a 2.0 in bar capacity. Rapids are 945 ipm on the X-axis, 1200 ipm on the Z-axis, and 500 ipm on the Y-axis.

Both machines provide a maximum swing of 31.75 in over the front apron, with a 20.75 in swing over the cross slide. Standard equipment includes high-torque live tooling with C-axis, rigid tapping, spindle orientation, a 15 in color LCD monitor, and a USB port. Available high-productivity options include a belt-type chip conveyor, automatic tool probe, automatic parts catcher, high-pressure coolant systems, and more. DS-30 Series Y-axis turning centers are backed by the worldwide network of Haas Factory Outlets – the most extensive system of support and service in the industry. www.HaasCNC.com
