This machine tool is ideal for larger chucked parts that require significant milling and drilling work in machinery construction, tool and mold making and aerospace.
The R300 from INDEX Corporation (Noblesville, IN) combines two complete five-axis machining systems, each with one quill-guided motorized milling spindle and one assigned work spindle, for complete machining of complex parts, short bars ranging to 102 mm diameter and chucked parts ranging to 315 mm diameter. The machine is ideal for larger chucked parts that require significant milling and drilling work in machinery construction, tool and mold making and aerospace.
Tool strips attached to both sides of each milling spindle provide access to six stationary tools per spindle, a configuration that essentially combines the functionality of a milling spindle and tool turret. This reduces processing time by making tool changes unnecessary during turning operations. The double-chain magazine accommodates as many as 140 tools for a total of 152 tools, a number sufficient to ensure short setup times even for small batches. The milling spindles can perform tool changes independently of each other with chip-to-chip tool change times in the 6 sec range. HSK toolholders reduce tool costs because live toolholders are no longer necessary.
Short lever arms and travels, the lack of conventional cross-slides with tool carriers, and a play-free, wear-free hydrostatic circular guide make the machine rigid and resistant to vibration. The B-axis swivel range of 270 deg and rapid traverse rate of 45 m/min provide flexibility and speed. The turning spindles offer 47 kW maximum power, a maximum speed of 3,500 rpm and a peak torque of 690 Nm.
The INDEX control C200-4D SL is based on the Siemens Sinumerik S840D. Specially developed cycles support multi-axis milling and turning operations. INDEX VirtualLine software packages provide 3D simulation and enable machining programs to be created, verified and optimized on the PC. www.index-usa.com
