This system slashes costs per part by more than 50 percent, energy consumption by more than 70 percent, and running costs by two-thirds, with virtually zero maintenance.

Not a converted CO2 laser, the L5 from Salvagnini America, Inc. (Hamilton, OH) is the first laser designed specifically around fiber optic technology and the only one to incorporate the patented, rotary motor driven, carbon fiber “Compass™” head positioner to achieve unmatched speed, accuracy, reliability, energy conservation and performance.

Salvagnini was the first to develop and market a laser using both a fiber optic resonator and fiber optic beam transmission to achieve superior results vis à vis CO2 lasers. Costs per part are slashed by more than 50 percent. Energy consumption is reduced by more than 70 percent. Running costs are only one-third that of a 4 kW CO2 laser with chiller. There is virtually zero maintenance.

There are no mirrors to align and no laser gas is required. The result is a machine with a payback that is typically only 70 percent of that of a CO2 laser – and that means leaner, more efficient, more profitable production.

The L5 accepts a variety of configurations for feeding blanks, picking up and stacking finished parts, and unloading skeletons. The new all-electric pallet changer is unique in the industry, with the processed piece always passing beneath the work table, thereby eliminating any risk of cut parts or scrap falling onto the incoming blank.
