This new line is targeted at applications bending 5/16 in to 1 in (8 mm to 25 mm) thick plate and for those who have highly concentrated load applications such as bending high tensile strength materials in smaller than normal V-die openings.

Wila® USA (Hanover, MD) introduces the new “HD” Heavy Duty product line designed to increase press brake productivity when bending plate materials. The HD line is targeted at users bending 5/16 in to 1 in (8 mm to 25 mm) thick plate and for those who have highly concentrated load applications such as bending high tensile strength materials in smaller than normal V-die openings.

Wila Heavy Duty is a modular product offering consisting of Hydraulic Clamping Systems, Crowning Systems, Bottom Tool Holders, Top and Bottom Tools, and a unique Tool Storage and Tool Loading System.

The HD Hydraulic Clamping Systems have a maximum load rating of 269 tons/ft (800 tons/m) and can pull up and seat a top tool weighing as much as 700 lb per ft. The HD Crowning Systems also have a max load rating of 269 tons/ft and are available in standard widths of 10 in (250 mm) and 6 in (150 mm).

The HD Crowning systems can be purchased with either hydraulic or mechanical clamping. The HD Bottom Tool Holders are in standard width of 6 in (150 mm) and have hydraulic clamping of single V-dies. HD Bottom Tool Holders with CNC-Deephardened top surface have a load rating of 269 tons/ft (800 tons/m) and non-hardened systems have a load rating of 168 tons/ft (500 tons/m).

Wila HD Clamping, Crowning, and Bottom Holders are designed to hold newly introduced Heavy Duty New Standard Tooling as well as Wila’s existing lines of Premium and Pro New Standard Tooling.

Heavy Duty Top and Bottom Tools are available with patent pending E2M “Easy-To-Move” roller bearings incorporated into the tool tangs which makes these heavy tools easy to slide in the Tool Holders. HD Top Tools include new Straight and Gooseneck Punches with larger punch tip radius of 0.236 in (6 mm) and 0.492 in (12.5 mm).

Also introduced is a HD Radius Holder with load rating of 168 tons/ft (500 tons/m) and a series of slide-on, self-seating, CNC-Deephardened radius inserts stocked in size range from 0.236 in (6 mm) to 1.969 in (50 mm). Larger radius size inserts are available as special order. HD single V-dies come in V-openings of 3.15 in (80 mm) to 7.874 in (200 mm) and are all 60 deg in order to be able to accommodate the large springback of today’s high tensile strength materials.

The new Press Brake Productivity ToolStation is designed to be located on the left- or right-hand side of the press brake. The ToolStation is manufactured in one m (40 in) modules and has a series of top and bottom tool slot stations to store the punches and dies at the same level as the top and bottom tool holders on the press brake. A top and bottom loading arm runs along guide rails to be able to slide punches directly into the top Hydraulic Clamping System and V-dies directly into the Bottom Tool Holder.

The new Wila Heavy Duty product line brings the same productivity gains of faster set-up, increased flexibility, and long term accuracy as well as improving operator safety to plate bending just as Wila’s New Standard and American product lines offer to thinner sheet bending. gglocker@wilausa.com, www.wilausa.com
