COE recently provided upgrades to machines at Williams-Bayer Industries.
COE Press Equipment (Sterling Heights, MI) announced that it has recently provided machine upgrades to a roll feed and straightener for automotive supplier Williams-Bayer Industries, improving productivity and enhancing quality for this producer of stampings and assemblies.
The coil processing equipment, produced by another equipment manufacturer, was affecting Williams-Bayer productivity as material was not consistently advancing properly from the straightener to the feeder or into the press. After an evaluation by COE’s service team, it was determined that the slide blocks of the feeder were misaligned and the rollers on both the feeder and straightener needed repairs.
The equipment was shipped to COE’s factory floor where the rollers were removed, compared to original CAD data and ground back to specification, then coated with a new matte chrome finish to improve the equipment’s ability to advance the material consistently. Additionally, bearings were replaced and the slide blocks adjusted so that the feeder aligned true to the die. All of the equipment was cleaned and painted to look like new.
“Rollers and bearings are high-wear items that often need to be replaced over the life of the equipment,” said COE Press Equipment general manager Jim Ward, “The problems these issues can cause are large; the fix is usually a simple machine upgrade that can easily add 10 years of life to equipment.”
The company has an experienced service team that provides new equipment installation support, production issue troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, equipment repairs and rebuilds as well as making recommendations for reconditioned coil feed lines, replacements and upgrades.
