The newest technology uses its CC digital generator to deliver versatility and high precision, without compromising fast cutting speed.
GF AgieCharmilles (Lincolnshire, IL) has introduced its new CUT 200 mS wire EDM featuring a micro-processor numerical control for maximum performance. This allows the automatic machining of workpieces from roughing to finishing, as well as automatic execution of elementary machining operations, machining cycles, part programs and any other operations required between programs.
The incorporation of the state-of-the-art, intuitive AC CUT HMI (human-machine interface) CNC allows for the optimal mix of quality, productivity and control over production costs. Designed and manufactured in Switzerland, the machine boasts active thermostabilization for the best positioning accuracy, onboard PROFIL-EXPERT, Power Expert and TAPER-EXPERT 2 smart modules, and a wide range of smart functions to boost performance.
With a machine design that delivers versatility and high precision, the CUT 200 mS features extremely fast axis speeds and quick wire threading that reduce non-cut times. The company’s latest generation of spark generators allows the machine to cut up to speeds of 38in2/hour (606 mm2/min) and up to 30-degree tapers in the Z-axis height while also producing superior part surface finishes. Additionally, energy saving functionality and advanced software help reduce operational costs and provide increased system connectivity.
GF AgieCharmilles’ Integrated Collision Protection (ICP) makes the 118 ipm (2,997 mm/minute) X- and Y-axis high-speed rapid traverse of the CUT 200 mS possible by effectively absorbing the energy of a collision. Operators can safely move the machine’s axes at high speeds without threat of severe machine damage in the event of an error.
Machine axes are fitted with linear glass scales for absolute coding at a resolution of 100 nanometers. The machine’s Rhenocast base maximizes thermal stability and vibration dampening, and combined with internal thermo-stabilization from running chilled dielectric through the casting and radior, the machine cuts parts weighing 2.2 lbs (1 kg) or as much as 1,653 lbs (750 kg) with the same exacting precision.
The machine’s compact footprint measures only 79.5 in x 80.5 in x 79 in (2,019 mm x 2,044 mm x 2,006 mm), yet has the room for ample X, Y, Z, U and V axis travels of 13.8 in (350.5 mm), 8.66 in (220 mm), 8.66 in (220 mm), 13.8 in (350.5 mm) and 8.66 in (220 mm), respectively, for accommodating workpieces up to 39.4 in (1,000 mm) long, 21.7 in (551 mm) wide and 8.66 in (220 mm) high.
With a less than 20-second spark-to-spark thread time, the CUT 200 mS’s ThermoCut 2 automatic wire threading system significantly decreases non-cut times and speeds set up. The system accommodates wire dimensions of 0.010 in (0.254 mm) standard, with options for diameters of 0.003 in (0.076 mm), 0.004 in (0.101 mm), 0.006 in (0.152 mm), 0.008 in (0.203 mm), 0.012 in (0.304 mm) and 0.013 in (0.330 mm).
GF AgieCharmilles equipped the CUT 200 mS with the company’s unique CC digital generator for perfect spark calibration, delivering fast cutting speeds and superior surface finishes. Steels, carbides, titanium and even PCD materials are efficiently cut while maintaining material integrity and hardness, and recast layers are practically non-existent, as well as any bluing that is often the case with titanium. Typical surface finishes as a result of the CC generator are Ra 0.1 micron and better.
