This magnetic system determines the flux height, field strength, and clamping forces required to maximize machine tool and spindle rigidity, minimize workpiece vibration, avoid chip re-cutting and easily remove the workpiece after clamping.

DocMagnet (Raleigh, NC) has developed a new and exciting patented VARIABLE FIELD TECHNOLOGY system for implementation into all of their product lines. This technology allows the engineers to design their magnetic workholding and material handling products to suit the customer’s application.

They are no longer limited by rough castings, workpiece size, or shape in customizing their product line to achieve a solution that will meet, and in most cases, exceed conventional clamping processes. What is VARIABLE FIELD TECHNOLOGY? It is the ability in the design of our magnetic systems to determine the flux height, field strength, and clamping forces of the magnet.

The system also has the capability of a demagnetizing cycle making it easier for releasing the material from the magnetic surface. This ability is especially useful in removing hardened tool steels after machining.

First utilized in their Multi-Flux Permanent-Electro Magnetic System, the firm is now engineering it into their other products. They have already designed a lifting system for sheet lifting using the technology as well as other applications.

Workholding requirements for hard machining require a more sophisticated approach. The need to maximize machine and spindle rigidity makes it even more important to minimize workpiece vibration. In addition, avoidance of re-cutting chips and the easy removal of workpiece after clamping are added complications that this technology addresses.

Edward Kroliczak, the head of sales and marketing states, “Building a better magnetic system for our customers and education is what we are all about. We continually strive to advance this exciting technology in contrast to the designs currently on the market.”
