The A-Jet® abrasive waterjet cutting head from OMAX.

OMAX Corporation (Kent, WA) shows how modern abrasive waterjet technology cuts simple to complex parts from any material quickly and precisely with their affordable, high performance MAXIEM 1530 JetCutting® Center and A-Jet® cutting head.

Well suited for smaller fabrication shops and metal service centers, the robust and highly versatile MAXIEM 1530 cost-effectively cuts high-quality parts from most materials, including metal, plastic, ceramic, stone and composites, within a 10 ft 2 in by 5 ft 2 in X-Y cutting travel area. The parts are cut directly from the plate with a single tool to reduce set-up time and material usage.

The MAXIEM 1530 JetCutting Center utilizes the company’s intuitive Intelli-MAX® Software Suite that provides faster, more precise and more accessible machining than competitive abrasive waterjet systems. With its patented motion control technology, Intelli-MAX Software ensures the fastest, most accurate waterjet cutting across a wide range of materials.

The latest version of the software meets the growing trend of manufacturers processing 3D components by supporting up to five axes of coordinated motion on the MAXIEM.

This demonstration shows how to cut accurate bevelled edges at angles selected by the user. The A-Jet is a complete software-controlled, multi-axis accessory permitting the flexibility to cut severe angles to a maximum of 60° off the vertical. The A-Jet cuts countersunk holes and jigsaw puzzle-type pieces with bevelled edges. The accessory supplies additional axes of motion, allowing the operator to fabricate and shape metal edges for weld preparation.

With an A-Jet cutting head accessory, the MAXIEM 1530 is able to make precise angled cuts and bevels, as well as automatically correct for the taper normally found in an abrasive waterjet cut.

The A-Jet adds two motion axes, enabling the cutting nozzle to tilt over a range from 0
deg to 60 deg from the vertical position. It can be used to easily produce beveled edges or cut countersunk holes, as well as machine parts with complex geometries.

With its additional axes of motion, the A-Jet allows production of beveled edges in preparation for welding operations. Furthermore, use of this accessory eliminates the need for many secondary machining and grinding operations.

With so many diverse offerings in its OMAX and MAXIEM product portfolios, OMAX Corporation offers the broadest range of table sizes, pumps, accessories, software and support on the market. Moreover, the company’s abrasive waterjet technology provides a flexible and beneficial alternative to conventional machining operations.

In fact, with this waterjet technology, manufacturers can accomplish quick turnaround of accurate parts without the hassle of tool changes or complex fixturing, as well as achieve smooth surface finishes without the need for secondary machining. www.omax.com
