ATW Companies (Warwick, RI), a leading provider of engineered metal manufacturing solutions, announced that it is implementing Lean as a strategic initiative in 2014. This will enable the company to better absorb the significant growth they are experiencing in Metalform, a gun magazine manufacturing facility formerly of New Britain, CT. ATW has seen 40 percent growth in their business since the acquisition and is planning for additional future growth with the help of this lean manufacturing philosophy.

Kaizen is the Japanese philosophy and process that focuses on the incremental improvement of all company functions. It involves everyone in the company from the chief executive officer to the assembly line employees. It was conceived at the Toyota Production System and has been adopted in the United States as a commitment to a lean manufacturing process and revolves around continuous improvement.

ATW is now able to vertically integrate into the rapidly growing firearms and defense industries since their acquisition of Metalform. Among their new products is the Metalform ProCarry line, an elite magazines serving many of the top firearm companies in the industry.

The technologies that are evolving out of ATW’s metal manufacturing expertise and Metalform’s defense market presence have taken the combined companies to a new level of product offerings, market penetration, and growth. The newly formed team combines the firm’s experienced, responsive engineering and fabrication team with Metalform’s innovative gun magazines. The result is world class quality and delivery to the firearms industry.
