Thread Form Now Available for High Speed CNC Machining

Stanley‘s Spiralock thread form has been used in applications for NASA’S Space Shuttle, the Saturn Cassini orbiter, and more.

For the first time in 30 years, a unique “thread form” that keeps fasteners tight in extreme applications is now available for high speed, CNC machining. Stanley Engineered Fastening’s (Shelton, CT) Spiralock thread form, a variation on the traditional thread form for bolts and other threaded fasteners used for the last century, has been used in places where vibration, temperature and other stresses can cause fasteners to loosen.

This includes NASA’S Space Shuttle, the Saturn Cassini orbiter, deep sea oil rigging operations, military electronics, aerospace vehicles, as medical devices for inside the body. Unlike the traditional thread form, Spiralock fasteners have a different thread geometry which means it won’t come loose or shear off in extreme conditions.

Before now, this thread form was only available for low speed production. The company has done a “re-boot” of all its taps and they are now optimized for high speed CNC operations.
