AMT’s Smartforce Rally Fighter to Visit Chicagoland April 16th

“The Smartforce Rally Fighter represents what’s new and exciting in manufacturing. It’s high-tech, locally made, crowd-sourced and fuel-efficient,” said AMT President Douglas K. Woods.

The Rally Fighter encourages students and parents to take a closer look at what manufacturing careers have to offer.

AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology (McLean, VA) will be in Chicagoland with its Smartforce Rally Fighter at BIG Kaiser Precision Tooling, Inc. to help promote careers in manufacturing with the Golden Corridor Advanced Manufacturing Partnership.  This event is directed toward area parents and students and will explain what advanced manufacturing is in today’s economy with presentations, manufacturing technology demonstrations and opportunities to talk to professionals in the field of tool making and manufacturing.

The Smartforce Rally Fighter embodies the spirit of American manufacturing and innovation.  The Rally Fighter itself is the world’s first open-source production vehicle, designed and developed by collaboration between Local Motors and a global community made up of thousands of designers, fabricators, engineers and auto enthusiasts.

The Rally Fighter also promotes another Chicago-area event, the Smartforce Student Summit at IMTS – The International Manufacturing Technology Show 2014, taking place September 8-13 at McCormick Place. Students, parents and educators will be able to get an interactive view of the high-tech manufacturing industry, while also hearing from some of the nation’s top STEM experts and other engaging keynote speakers.

The Rally Fighter caught the attention of visitors to IMTS 2012 where a five-member team built the car live on the show floor – culminating with starting the engine and driving out of Chicago’s McCormick Place at the end of the event.

“The Smartforce Rally Fighter represents what’s new and exciting in manufacturing. It’s high-tech, locally made, crowd-sourced and fuel-efficient,” said AMT President Douglas K. Woods. “The car’s ‘cool factor’ will help persuade students and parents to take a closer look at what manufacturing careers have to offer. The slogan on the door tells the story: Manufacturing Brighter Futures.”

“The Rally Fighter has been a real hit in the communities that we’ve visited, and Chicago is an ideal backdrop for this visit as we raise awareness for the Smartforce Student Summit.” said Greg Jones, AMT Vice President of Smartforce Development. “AMT uses the rally fighter as a backdrop to local and national conversations within communities about STEM education and careers in manufacturing.”

Parents and students are welcome and should contact their SD 211 or SD 214 career and technical teachers and administrators at your local school to secure a registration.  Space is limited so do not delay for this April 16th event at BIG Kaiser from 7-8:30 PM in Hoffman Estates, IL.
