Easy-To-Use Vertical Machining Centers for Precision Parts

VMC B series machine tools from SMTCL Americas are made of cast steel to machine workpieces up to 1,200 mm with speed and precision.

Posted: March 22, 2014

24 different tools are available for the BT/SK 40 spindle, which can be operated with a maximum speed of 8,000 to 15,000 rpm. The tool magazine is positioned directly on the stand and provides the required tool quickly and precisely by means of the automatic tool changer.
The VMC 1000B machine type offers a table clamping surface measuring 1,200 x 500 mm, while the table’s maximum load capacity is 600 kg. It also has the exceptional axis travels measuring 1,000 mm for the X axis, 610 mm for the Y axis, and 650 mm for the Z axis.
The VMC 1000 vertical machining center made by SMTCL. The machining center is able to complete even difficult machining with a high torque both reliably and with minimal vibrations, thanks to high-precision linear guides, cast iron guides for the Z axis, and a strong ball screw drive. The motor has been positioned directly on the spindle to ensure a powerful drive system, reducing start-up and braking times, as well as enhancing accuracy and offering shorter machining times.

Outstanding damping and thermal properties are what characterize the new vertical machining centers in the VMC B series from machine tool manufacturer SMTCL Americas (City of Industry, CA). The machine is also equipped with a swiveling NC rotary table made by Tsudakoma, tools made by ISCAR, and a workpiece measuring system made by Renishaw.

All the main components of the machine are made of cast steel and workpieces of up to
1,200 mm can be machined with speed and precision. When developing this series, the key issues were to ensure excellent technical performance and availability, while designing machines that were easy to use.

The sturdy linear guides enable high rapid traverse rates of up to 32 m/min and keep cost-intensive non-productive times to a minimum. Coolant nozzles and a chain-type chip conveyor reliably transport chips away. Meanwhile, a Fanuc control system and a 90 deg swivel operating panel make the equipment easy and convenient to operate.
