AEC Announces New Vice Chairman and Four New Extruder Directors
Richard A. Merluzzi is the new vice chairman and Mike Flynn, Spencer Burt, Scott Condreay and Charles McEvoy are the new extruder directors.

The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC; Wauconda, IL) announced the results of the annual election of officers and directors at the 65th Annual Meeting & Leadership Conference held on March 19, 2014 in Coral Gables, FL.
Richard A. Merluzzi, the chief executive officer of Pennex Aluminum Company (Wellsville, PA), was re-elected to serve a one-year term as the chairman of the Aluminum Extruders Council. Matt McMahon, the president of Pries Enterprises, Inc. (Independence, IA), was elected to serve a one-year term as the vice chairman of the Council. Duncan Crowdis of Bonnell Aluminum Company (Newnan, GA) was re-elected as the immediate past chairman and Rand Baldwin was re-elected to the non-voting position as the president of the Council.
Four new members of the board of directors, all elected to three-year terms as Extruder Directors, were announced:
Mike Flynn, the president of Apel Extrusions (Calgary, AB, Canada) is an accomplished manufacturing executive with over 30 years of senior-level experience in selling, manufacturing and distributing metals, electronics and plastics in both domestic and international markets. His experience includes international start-ups and the development of business relationships with some of the world’s premier OEMs. On joining the AEC Board, Flynn commented, “I am delighted to have been elected to the board of directors of such a fine industry association. Knowing many of my AEC peers personally, I can’t think of a finer group of executives to work with in advancing the interests of the Aluminum Industry.”
Spencer Burt is the human resources manager for Futura Industries (Clearfield, UT). He has been with Futura for eight years in that position and has also served in various other positions, including as the company’s TSLOTS operation manager. “I am honored to be joining an organization as great as the AEC, commented Burt. “I am looking forward to working with a team of amazing people, from which I am certain I will learn many great things. Ultimately I am happy to add value to the aluminum industry and to the AEC. Futura has leaned on the Council for much support and I am looking forward to giving back.”
Scott Condreay, a senior manufacturing engineer for Sapa Extrusions North America Technical Center (Portland, OR), has more than 30 years of experience in the aluminum extrusion industry. He has held a wide variety of positions, including die design, die manufacturing, technical sales and applications, fabrication and finishing. Condreay is an active member of AEC and recently has become the AEC Academic Outreach Team Chair. He is also active in AAMA as a board member and committee chairman.
Charles McEvoy, the executive vice president for Western Extrusions Corp. (Dallas, TX), has 30 years’ experience in the aluminum extrusion industry and has served on the AEC Finishing Committee and the Keep Aluminum Windows (KAW) Committee.
Remaining on the board are Jim Dickson of Rio Tinto Alcan (Mayfield Heights, OH) as an at-large director and Neil Chrisman of Spectrum Metal Finishing (Youngstown, OH) as Supplier Director.
