Senator Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, Representative Mike Turner, R-Ohio, David Williams, the vice president of procurement for Airbus Americas (Dayton, OH), and the National Composite Center (Kettering, OH) will co-host a procurement conference for Ohio business owners and state officials to promote and facilitate increased business between Ohio aerospace manufacturers and Airbus.
The conference will empower Ohio business owners by providing them with an opportunity to connect with Airbus and Airbus Tier-1 supplier representatives in one-on-one meetings and learn about contracting with Airbus. The event will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014, at the National Composite Center in Kettering.
Senator Brown noted, “This procurement conference is an example of what can be achieved when government and the private sector work together to create opportunities for Ohio aerospace manufacturers. Our state prides itself on its ability to attract and retain key companies that aim to succeed in research, innovation, and technology sectors; our top-notch universities, research centers, and cutting-edge companies clearly have drawn Airbus’ interest.”
Congressman Turner explained that the partnership between Airbus and the National Composites Center, located in the 10th Congressional district, is a “clear sign” of the positive impact that the aerospace industry will have on Ohio’s future economic development. “Ohio is the birthplace of aviation and I am proud of our state’s legacy of leadership in this industry,” said Turner. “This conference will benefit Ohio by connecting Ohio business owners with Airbus, a company committed to contracting with local suppliers that use quality, American-made materials.”
Williams remarked, “The state of Ohio is a magnet for entrepreneurs and innovators in the aerospace industry. Airbus has benefitted for years from Ohio’s robust network of aerospace supply businesses, and we believe that this conference will not only allow us to reinforce and advance our existing connections in the state, but will also foster our outreach efforts by connecting us with new businesses in the industry. We expect that this conference will strengthen this mutually beneficial relationship between our company and businesses in the state.”
The National Composites Center is a proud partner of Airbus in their combined mission to further expand the use of made-in-America supply chains in the aerospace industry.
Airbus spent $14.4 billion for aircraft-related procurement with U.S. companies in 2013. with Ohio receiving almost half that spending. The company intends to nearly double its procurement spend in the U.S. by 2020.
