5-Axis Machining Center for Complex Parts

The FM 200/5AX Linear from Doosan performs simultaneous 5-axis contouring on medical devices, automotive turbo chargers and other precision parts.

Posted: September 21, 2014

The X, Y and Z axes on the 200/5AX Linear are driven by high-precision linear motors for high accel/decel feed rates with little to no backlash. The platten size is 7.9 in diameter with a capacity load of 33.1 lb. Travels are X-axis, 7.9 in, Y-axis, 13.4 in and Z-axis, 11.8 in. Rapid traverse rates on all axes are 1,968.5 ipm, with a cutting feedrate of 787 ipm.

Utilizing state-of-the art linear motor and direct drive technology, Doosan Infracore Machine Tools (Pine Brook, NJ) introduces the FM 200/5AX Linear full 5-axis machining center. Developed for simultaneous 5-axis contouring, the FM 200/5AX Linear offers manufacturers the ultimate platform for machining a wide range of complex parts, including medical devices, automotive turbo chargers and other precision parts.

The FM200/5AX Linear machining center is built upon a rigid bridge-type base, composed of a highly stable mineral composite material. Because mineral castings absorb vibration at ten times the rate of iron castings and are much more thermally stable, finished parts are delivered with superior surface finishes, while tool life is increased dramatically.

The X, Y and Z axes on this machining center are driven by high-precision linear motors, providing industry leading accel/decel feed rates with little to no backlash. The 4th and 5th axes rotary tables are equipped with direct drive motors to deliver matching levels of performance. The platten size is 7.9 in diameter with a capacity load of 33.1 lb. Travels on the FM 200/5AX Linear are X-axis, 7.9 in, Y-axis, 13.4 in and Z-axis, 11.8 in. Rapid traverse rates on all axes are 1,968.5 ipm, with a cutting feedrate of 787 ipm.

Spindle speeds of 45,000 rpm are achieved with the FM200/5AX Linear’s best-in-class 19 hp spindle, featuring an HSK E40 taper. The result is that vibration has been minimized and stability has been maximized. With 24-tool stations as standard, productivity is further increase with the reliability of a direct drive, servo-driven Automatic Tool Changer. Maximum tool diameter is 2 in. Maximum tool length and weight: 7.1 in and 2.2 lb.

Experienced machinists appreciate the benefits provided by a Heidenhain CNC control, especially when approaching a complex part with full 5-axis contouring. The FM200/5AX Linear’s features a state-of-the-art Heidenhain TNC control with an ergonomic swivel pendant and user friendly 19 in screen.
