SMTCL USA, Inc. (City of Industry, CA) gives back to the community by becoming the newest sponsor of the local Boys & Girls Club in Pomona, California. The machine tool supplier made a donation that will help future generations to succeed.

“We are proud to help the young people in the community,” said chief operations officer Jerry McCarty. “The staff at the Boys & Girls Club of Pomona does an excellent job of providing leadership, guidance, and support to these kids and we want to be a part of it. We also strongly believe that manufacturing is a great career and we hope to show the teens at the Boys & Girls Club of Pomona that we are a career option for their future.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Pomona has a dedicated director of the Teen Center, Lance Holliday, who works to improve the facility and services offered. Holliday led McCarty on a tour of the club and described plans of what the donation will be used for. He hopes to use the donation to improve the computer room for the teens and also build a garden center. The facility contains a variety of activities for the children and teens including: pool, basketball, arts and crafts rooms, woodshop, music center, and a swimming pool. Homework time and help with homework is also part of the schedule for the kids after school.

“We want to help expose these kids to as much as we can, so they make informed decisions about their careers and their lives,” added Holliday, who plans out the week for the teens with new activities and by challenging them to focus on their future. The teens are encouraged to start looking into colleges and are taken on field trips to local schools such a Cal Poly Pomona and UCLA.

SMTCL-Americas plans to help with giving the teens hands-on experience working in the manufacturing field by introducing them to its machines and teaching them about how the company operates.

The Boys & Girls Club of America’s mission is, “To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.” The Pomona location is working hard to give the future generations the opportunity to succeed, and SMTCL-Americas is proud to be a part of the change.
