General Motors Co. (Detriot, MI), one of the world’s largest automakers, recently awarded Associated Tube Group (ATG; Markham, ON), a division of Samuel, Son & Co., Limited, the 2014 GM Supplier Quality Excellence Award. ATG has been awarded this distinction three years in a row. Only 80 suppliers in the U.S. and Canada have achieved this distinction since the Quality Excellence Award was established by GM in 2012. The award is based on supplier performance for quality, on-time delivery, customer support, and several other stringent criteria.

Over the past few years, ATG has achieved performance excellence based on its supply of the GM Gen 5 direct injection drawn-over-mandrel (DOM) tubing to GM Components Holdings LLC. “It has been a tough few years for ATG to meet the substantial demand for this GM engine program,” said August Noto, the director of global automotive sales for ATG. “But we highly value our GM relationship and our team has really pulled it together to make it happen, time and time again.” The GM Gen 5 – V6 and V8 are the primary engines for GM pickup trucks and large SUVs.

Lee Cotterill, the quality assurance manager for ATG, states, “Both Associated Tube Canada (ATC) and Tubos Samuel de México (TSM) are proud of what we have achieved over the past few years supplying direct injection DOM tubes for various engine platforms. We look forward to continuing its superior level of excellence and quality for the automotive industry in 2015 and beyond.”
