3D Printed Presidential Portrait on View

A system called the “mobile light stage” was used to record a digital model of the president and then create the 3D portrait.

Posted: December 3, 2014

The 3D printing of a portrait of the president was designed with printable digital models and printed as a life-sized mask and bust using Selective Laser Sintering printers, which are industrial grade devices that produce high-resolution 3D prints.

3D Systems, Inc. (Valencia, CA) is proud to have worked with the Smithsonian Institute on the 3D printing of a portrait of Barack Obama. The company designed the printable digital models and printed the life mask and bust of the president using its Selective Laser Sintering printers, which are industrial grade devices that produce high-resolution 3D prints.

This video from the White House details the entire project.
