Chatter Free High Speed Machining
Power Mill Solid Carbide Endmills from Haimer use endmill geometries that are ideal for chatter free high end machining and extremely smooth surfaces for the best possible chip evacuation.

New Power Mill Solid Carbide Endmills from Haimer USA, LLC (Villa Park, IL) are made from high end fine grain carbide and are equipped with a Safe-Lock™ shank as a standard. Safe-Lock designates a Haimer developed pull out protection system which has become a standard for HSC and HPC machining in the past few years. The developed endmill geometries are based on an unequal flute and helix design for chatter free high end machining. All tools are coated with latest PVD technology and have an extremely smooth surface for the best possible chip evacuation.
The new Power Mill Portfolio, with cutting diameters available from 2 mm to 20 mm and up to 1 in, will be made available with 3, 4 and 5 cutting edges having multiple lengths of cut. To offer maximum flexibility in order to address the customers application requirements, different cutting edge solutions (sharp, chamfer and radius) will be offered. Also a roughing geometry with a cord profile will be part of the portfolio. A typical Haimer specialty is the high precision of the tools. All end mills are fine balanced and have a run-out of 5 µm. All shanks are based to an h5 tolerance.
With the launch of the new Power Mill portfolio in North America, the company has expanded the Safe-Lock offering. Resulting from the wide spread and multiple customer requests for different application areas, Safe-Lock will be available starting from shank diameter 6 mm. Andreas Haimer summarizes, “As the inventor of Safe-Lock, we step up and offer this shank solution as a standard for all Power Mill tools starting from shank diameter 6 mm and intentionally give up on plain round and Weldon shanks.”
Due to the inherently balanced design, the Safe-Lock® shanks can be clamped in standard shrink fit and collet chucks without any problems. In comparison, it now doesn`t make sense to clamp µm precision high performance geometries with Weldon shanks and push them significantly out of center, which introduces an extreme unbalance. Our target is to have high availability and replace the Weldon system in the next 10 years. Whereas Safe-λock® not only supports roughing applications, it is becoming a new universal solution that continues to find more and more use during HSC applications with high helix endmills.
Haimer is a medium-sized family business located in Igenhausen, Bavaria, in southern Germany. We develop, produce and sell innovative ultra-precision products for metal cutting e.g. for the automotive, aerospace, energy, railway and engineering industry. Besides tool holders in all common interfaces and 3D measuring devices, balancing and shrink fit machines also belong to our delivery program.
Haimer employs approximately 400 staff worldwide. About 300 are employed in our production plant in Igenhausen that uses state-of-the-art machinery, a high degree of automation and sound production methods. Our experienced, dynamic and highly qualified employees guarantee our famous top quality “made by Haimer.” The company already ensures its skilled staff for the future by educating almost 40 apprentices and having a high take-over ratio for employment. That is our contribution to the further education of young people and ensures the future existence of our production facility.
Being the European market leader in tool holding with a daily capacity of approximately 2,000 tool holders, the continuous technological lead of our products is very important to us. For this reason we annually invest 8 percent to 10 percent of our revenue in research and development. Our daily drive to be better fits perfectly with our corporate philosophy: Quality Wins.
