During the recent PRODEX trade fair in Basel, Switzerland, GF Machining Solutions (Nidau, Switzerland) earned a prestigious PRODEX Award for Swiss technology innovation in the field of manufacturing and production.
The company received the honor for its Machine Spindle Protection (MSP) smart machine module, a revolutionary spindle protection system engineered for the MIKRON HPM 600U and HPM 800U high-performance milling machines.
Introduced in April 2014, the MSP module eliminates crash-related spindle damage, misaligned machine geometry and machine downtime, resulting in higher productivity and lower maintenance costs.
Spindle crashes primarily occur when an operator executes a CNC program for the first time. Therefore, GF Machining Solutions designed the MSP module to protect the machine tool and spindle during the set up process. The module allows the spindle to absorb axial and lateral displacements upon crashing and then restores to perfect accuracy once the spindle returns to normal operating conditions.
With only three honors available within the PRODEX Award program, a panel of seven experts, representatives from academic and industry associations, exhibition management, SMM Schweizer Maschinenmarkt and MSM Le Mensuel de l’industrie magazine, performed thorough, independent evaluations on every nominated product and process.
In addition to the PRODEX Award, the Machine Spindle Protection smart machine module garnered positive attention at this year’s International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago and AMB international metalworking exhibition in Germany.
