Safety specialist John Philip Edwards completed the requirements for a Board of Certified Safety Professionals certification as a safety trained supervisor. Health, safety and environmental managers Robert W. Trachsler and Charles D. Royko completed all requirements for a BCSP Certification as Occupational Health and Safety Technologists.

Mark Torch, CSP, CET, the group safety director for Konecranes Inc. (Springfield, OH), a world leader in overhead lifting equipment and services, has announced new safety certifications earned by three team members in the first quarter of 2015.

John Philip Edwards, a safety specialist from Springfield, has completed the requirements for a Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) certification as a safety trained supervisor (STS). Health, safety and environmental managers Robert W. Trachsler of Mobile, AL, and Charles D. Royko of Houston, TX, have completed all requirements for a BCSP Certification as occupational health and safety technologists (OHST).

These highly valued designations are awarded by BCSP to individuals who meet eligibility and experience criteria in the safety, health and environmental (SH&E) discipline and have passed an examination. “Our customers hold us to a high standard when it comes to safety,” said Torch. “We do everything we can to make sure our employees are performing safely and our programs are meeting or exceeding standards, both at our sites or facilities belonging to our customers.”

Torch added how it is not an easy path to achieve these certifications. “Safety certifications are a combination of experience, education and testing. Achieving certification demonstrates an individual’s commitment to the profession of safety, as well as Konecranes commitment to continuously improving our safety programs,” he said.

He went on to explain how safety issues have become more complex and today’s safety professional must continually work to become better qualified. “BCSP credential holders are among the most highly trained, educated and experienced individuals in the safety field,” noted Torch.

A certificate holder must undergo recertification every five years to maintain credentials.
